Near North Voices’ begins its 2022-2023 Season

Near North Voices — North Bay’s University-Community Choir, will resume rehearsals on
Wednesday September 14, 2022, 7:00pm-9:15pm.

This season, we are moving rehearsals off-campus, to the Sons of Jacob Synagogue, 302 McIntyre St W at the corner with Cassells St. Meet and Greet begins at 6:00 p.m., rehearsal starts at 7:00 p.m. New members requiring a vocal range check are asked to arrive early (6:00-6:30).

NNV performs several concerts per season, along with service music in the community. Our repertoire is mainly focused on art music (“classical” music) from the 16th to 21st centuries, with a particular focus on new choral works and Canadian composers, folk and world musics. Our members include students, staff and faculty from Nipissing University and Canadore College, along with members of the North Bay and area community. In our last season, our members ranged in age from 15-85. Music reading ability and previous choral experience is helpful but not a requirement. Vocal range checks are available for singers who aren’t sure which part they sing.

Student Choral Scholarships are available for qualified middle and high school students who are looking for a musical challenge and growth opportunity. NNV Student Choral Scholars receive free membership, regular singing lessons, and are eligible for an end-of-season scholarship. Past NNV Student Choral Scholars have gone on to post-secondary music study at colleges and universities across the province.

All members must be able to proof of vaccination if requested, and masks will be required during the singing part of our rehearsals until further notice; ATSM Level 3 disposable singers’ masks with additional “breathing room” will be available to those who need them; participants are welcome to bring their own masks.
